The global maximum is the point in a {[search space}} or {[fitness landsape}} with the highest possible value. When a high score is good, the global maximum is the optimal solution. It is in contrast to a local maximum, that is a point in the search space that is larger than any of its neighbours, but not necessarily largest overall.
